Massage Therapy FAQs
Everything you may want to know before booking your massage.
Whether it’s your first massage or you’ve been receiving bodywork for years, it’s normal to have questions. Here are answers to some of the things clients ask most often about appointments at Knead To De-Stress.
Before Your Massage
-
No. Simply choose the amount of time that works for you. We’ll talk about how you’re feeling and what you want from the session, and I’ll adjust the techniques and pressure from there.
-
Wear whatever is comfortable. You’ll have privacy to undress to your comfort level before the massage begins, and professional draping is used throughout your session.
-
For your first visit, arriving about 5–10 minutes early is helpful so you have time to get settled without feeling rushed.
-
A light meal beforehand is generally fine. I’d avoid a large or heavy meal immediately before your appointment.
-
Sixty minutes works well for focused care, 90 minutes gives us more time for comprehensive work, and 120 minutes is ideal when several areas need attention or you want a more unhurried session.
During Your Massage
-
Massage should not feel like something you have to endure. Some focused work may feel intense, but pressure can always be adjusted. I want you to communicate if anything feels uncomfortable or too strong.
-
Absolutely. Pressure is adjusted throughout the session based on your preferences, what I’m finding and how your body responds.
-
Not at all. Some clients enjoy conversation and others prefer quiet. Aside from communication about comfort, pressure or positioning, the time is yours. I leave all conversation up to you.
-
We’ll discuss what you want to focus on before the session. Your massage may include a combination of areas depending on your goals, comfort level and the amount of time booked. You will be asked on your Intake Form what areas you are not comfortable with and they will be avoided.
-
When appropriate, yes. My approach is influenced by yoga and movement, so a session may incorporate assisted stretching or movement-based techniques when they support what your body needs.
